“Explain the reasons”: the evacuation of Americans from Ukraine surprised the EU
The European Union has no plans to order its diplomats to leave Ukraine from the supposedly upcoming “Russian invasion.”
The PolitNavigator correspondent reports this, the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell said before the start of the meeting of the EU Foreign Ministers.
He said that he would ask US Secretary of State Antony Blinken why The State Department has ordered the families of American diplomats left Ukraine.
“Secretary Blinken will explain to us the reasons for this announcement. We are not going to do something like that, because we don’t see any particular reason for this,” said the head of European diplomacy.
He urged not to “dramatize the situation” as negotiations are ongoing.
In addition, it was said that Brussels does not plan to announce anti-Russian sanctions as a result of the current meeting, although the process of preparing potential restrictions is underway.
Earlier, the US State Department allowed some employees of the American embassy in Kyiv and members of their families to leave Ukraine. The agency recommended that American citizens in Ukraine consider leaving now.
