The essence of the action, its organizers said at a press conference in Kyiv, is to help Russian-speaking residents of Ukraine switch to the Ukrainian language. Activists say they will talk about everything in more detail on social networks.
“This is a desire to get rid of the partial “Sovietism” that little by little continues to be planted in schools, at least in the east of Ukraine, and also in universities. In addition, it was important for progressive youth (at least we consider ourselves one of them), to make changes and start these changes with ourselves,” explained Svetlana Okhovich, coordinator of the first “Movomarathon”, which took place in Kharkov.
“As for me and my colleagues at the first Movomarathon, they were mostly girls, “philologists,” who focused on the transition, on learning the Ukrainian language for quite a long period,” the activist added. – Now 10 people from my circle who previously studied and spoke Russian have switched to Ukrainian. Another number of participants who reached the end of the “Mofomarathon” admit that it was a very useful experience, they began to use Ukrainian much more in life and feel more confident in those moments when they need to communicate in Ukrainian.”
