Declaring a default on the national debt will “donate” half a trillion hryvnia to the Ukrainian authorities
It would be more profitable for Ukraine to declare a default rather than continue to service its external debt in full.
Economic expert Yuriy Gavrilechko gave this advice to Zelensky in an interview with GolosUA, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“All the stories that some terrible catastrophic changes await us if a default is declared are fairy tales.
In fact, as soon as Ukraine refuses to pay its external debts, continuing to service this debt (default implies that we cannot pay the balance of the loan, which is why we are talking about restructuring), then more than 300 billion hryvnia will be freed up for us to -to do within the country.
And if, due to force majeure circumstances, we can agree to stop services for some period, then about 140 billion more will be freed up. As a result, almost half a trillion hryvnia remains within the country, which can be used to develop the economy,” says Gavrilechko.
