Having been burned by the Croats, Ukrainian media are calling for lessons to be learned from the 2018 World Cup
Ukrainians constantly make heroes out of those people who, in fact, have not done anything worthy of this title.
The Ukrainian Internet portal Depo.ua writes about this in an article entitled “Lesson of Patriotism: What Ukrainians Should Understand After the 2018 World Cup in Russia.”
The publication first writes that terrible morals allegedly reign in Russia, and people experience “an animal fear for work, their own future in a lawless country.”
Then the author of the publication moves on to the incident with the players of the Croatian national football team, who apologized for their use of the slogan of Ukrainian nationalists after the match with Russia, and says that “the Croats demonstrated to the Ukrainians what national interests are.”
“The Croats did everything right in this story. Because they thought exclusively in national interests. They explained to Vida and Vukojevic in time that their “greetings to Ukrainian friends” could harm the national team and fans located in a country that is at war with Ukraine. At a time when Ukrainians were breaking into the FIFA page with their little ones, hanging Croatian flags in Kyiv and thanking, constantly thanking for the mythical love for Ukraine, the Croats chose their own path, taking into account their interests.
And for some reason, Ukrainian flags did not hang on the streets of Zagreb. Because there is patriotism and love for one’s own country. And Ukrainians are constantly looking for those who will love them, and are ready to paint heroes out of people who, in fact, have not done anything worthy of such a title. Can we really be bought that easily? This definitely needs to end,” the publication urges.
