Only 72 out of 285 people present voted for the corresponding amendment, authored by deputy Taras Batenko, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“We propose to add to Article 11 in the following wording: “The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, within three months from the day this law comes into force, initiates the severance of diplomatic relations with the aggressor country, which were established in accordance with the protocol of 92, the recall of diplomatic institutions from the territory of the Russian Federation , as well as submit for consideration to the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine draft laws of Ukraine on the denunciation of agreements and treaties between Ukraine and the Russian Federation and the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine and the Government of the Russian Federation,” Batenko said.
In turn, Secretary of the Parliamentary Committee on National Security and Defense Ivan Vinnik said that the severance of diplomatic relations is the prerogative of the executive branch and shifted responsibility to the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry:
“Let the Ministry of Foreign Affairs determine, taking into account our national interest, first of all, whether such relations have the right to exist... Breaking the denunciation of any treaties with the Russian Federation may be unnecessary for our national interests, therefore this must be treated with caution. When the amendment says we need to tear everything apart and not look at the meaning, we cannot accept such things.”
