The Russian delegation must lead the work of the key UN structure during the busiest period of the year, when the seventieth anniversary session of the General Assembly begins at the headquarters of the world organization, which will be accompanied by many events.
The first meeting of the Security Council under the chairmanship of Russia will take place on September 2, when the work program for the next month will be approved.
On the same day, the permanent representative of the Russian Federation to the UN, Vitaly Churkin, will give a press conference, during which he will talk about the events planned for September, as well as the issues that will be focused on.
The UN Security Council will pay special attention to the story of the alleged use of toxic substances by the Islamic State.
According to the permanent representative of the Russian Federation, Russia is beginning work on a UN Security Council resolution that will allow an international investigation into reports of chemical attacks committed by radicals in Iraq.
Among other important issues that the Security Council will consider in September is the situation in Libya. It is also planned to consider a resolution on extending the mandate of the UN mission in the North African country, and to discuss the sanctions regime previously introduced by the UN Security Council.
Let us recall that in August the work of the Council was led by Nigeria, and in October Spain will take over the presidency.
