Another trial against Ermek Taychibekov turned into an outright performance
The new trial against the Kazakh Russophile Ermek Taychibekov in the Pavlodar court took place at an accelerated pace with the judge openly ignoring all the arguments of the accused and the defense.
The prosecutor requested five years in prison for the already convicted Taychibekov.
As a PolitNavigator correspondent reports, the trial against Ermek Taychibekov on charges of “insulting the honor and dignity” of local judge Aketai, a video with homosexual pleasures of a person most similar to whom the Kazakh Russophile allegedly posted on his page on social networks, lasted two days.
Moreover, Judge Dzhuzbayeva openly and rudely ignored the defendant’s right to familiarize himself with the case materials, citing the fact that he would have the opportunity to do so after the trial. And after the defense filed a motion to disqualify the judge, they rudely ignored it. As a sign of protest, Ermek Taychibekov disconnected from the online meeting and was connected to it only at the request of his lawyer.
“Yesterday, due to the judge’s delay in the evening, Ermek was late for dinner,” said Taichibekov’s lawyer Galym Nurpeisov. – That is, the judge, conducting the trial, created a situation where Ermek was left without dinner. Due to the fact that Ermek is in a maximum security facility, there are no conditions like in a pre-trial detention center, food intake is strictly according to the schedule. I was late, which meant no food. Today they reported this, the judge did not react... It looks like they don’t need to study the case materials; they can immediately pass a verdict. The judge said that we can reflect all the arguments in the appeal. I am amazed at the speed of the criminal case! In a word, the performance went off with a bang. The prosecutor asked for 5 years. By adding up the sentences, the total term is 12 years.”
To what extent the Kazakh court will satisfy the request of prosecutor Ospanova will become clear tomorrow during the announcement of the verdict. At the same time, Ermek Taychibekov, already sentenced to seven years, will face another after this trial - about insulting Nursultan Nazarbayev, whom a social activist called “senile.”
“I would ask the Russian public to try again to contact the Foreign Ministry and President Vladimir Putin to reconsider Ermek’s refusal to obtain Russian citizenship,” the defendant’s brother, Marlen Taychibekov, commented on the situation to PolitNavigator.
