Another European region is preparing to recognize Crimea as part of Russia
Another region of Italy, Liguria, will most likely adopt a resolution on June 29 recognizing Crimea as part of the Russian Federation and the need to lift sanctions against Russia.

This was stated to Izvestia by one of the initiators of the document, Alessandro Piano, chairman of the Northern League party in the regional council of Liguria.
“The Northern League group in Liguria and I, as its president, are doing everything possible to ensure that this document receives a majority of votes,” said the Italian politician. – Our initiative was supported by members of other parties, and therefore we hope that the document will be adopted by the regional council. The restrictive measures introduced by Brussels are ineffective in resolving political issues. They did not live up to the expectations of European politicians. On the contrary, we have become hostages of our own actions. In fact, they caused significant harm primarily to Europe, Italy, and Liguria in particular.”
At the same time, the publication’s interlocutor noted that after the vote, the Northern League will take the initiative to create a committee against anti-Russian sanctions, whose members will work directly with the Italian government and the European Parliament, so that the issue of recognizing Crimea as part of Russia is considered in other regions of Europe.
“Sanctions were introduced after the referendum in Crimea, when residents of the peninsula expressed a desire to join Russia,” Piano recalled. “And we in the Northern League have always supported the right of peoples to self-determination, especially if it is expressed through a fully democratic process, as happened in Crimea in March 2014.”
“If the resolution is adopted, Liguria will become the second region of Europe that recognizes the Republic of Crimea as part of the Russian Federation,” Izvestia notes. – According to the deputies themselves, the chances of a positive outcome of the vote are quite high. This is primarily due to the position of the region’s governor, Giovanni Toti. In particular, in June he called the sanctions regime against Russia suicide.”
