Eyewitness: They constantly carry a nuclear briefcase behind Putin
The so-called “nuclear briefcase,” a device that stores codes to activate Russia’s nuclear arsenal, is kept close to the president even when he is on vacation in remote parts of the country.
Former journalist of the Kremlin pool Dmitry Smirnov said this on air on the PolitWera Internet channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to Smirnov, the president, even on vacation, is surrounded by a large number of people who provide communication and security.
“If Putin was going to the taiga, they also asked Peskov, but it was more of a protocol question, because everyone understands perfectly well: did he have a nuclear suitcase with him? Naturally, there was. To have a suitcase, you need to have special communications, a lot of everything. Unfortunately for the president, he himself said about it that “unfortunately, I am quite unfree in this regard, I cannot get up and go somewhere without anyone being around.” Even if he is in the taiga, there are still quite a lot of people nearby, to put it mildly. Because the connection and the suitcase should be in any way,” Smirnov said.
He emphasized that the “nuclear suitcase” was not absent during Putin’s meeting with US President Donald Trump: “There was even a famous photograph when Putin and Trump respectively met, our officer and theirs stood in the corridor. Two nuclear suitcases met."
