Komsomolskaya Pravda writes about this, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“Supporters of a “single and indivisible” unitary Ukraine are sounding the alarm. Odessa intends to revive the “separatist” project of actual separation from the rest of Ukraine through the creation of a “priority development zone” on its territory. This is the name of a new attempt by local authorities to actually separate economically from the rest of the country, which was previously discussed in the options of creating a “porto-franco” and a “free economic zone” (FEZ),” the article notes.

It is indicated that previously this idea was most actively promoted by the current deputies of the Verkhovna Rada Vadim Rabinovich and Sergei Kivalov, and the latter, as Ukrainian media claimed, at one time even wrote a Constitution for the “Odessa People’s Republic”, which could appear on the basis of the SEZ in Odessa areas. True, after the burning of people in Odessa, the topic faded away.

“And now the project, which was the stuff of nightmares for the Ukrainian authorities, is beginning to seem to be revived. Moreover, on the initiative of not only the current opposition from among the OPZZh deputies, but also the current Odessa authorities. The head of Odessa, Gennady Trukhanov, ordered the creation of a working group on the restoration and expansion of the full-fledged activities of the special economic zone,” the publication writes.

“What do the “patriotic forces” of Ukraine think about this? Of course, they see the notorious “hand of the Kremlin” in all this. And they talk about the “creeping federalization” of Ukraine, allegedly carried out by Moscow. At the same time, of course, we remember that at one time Russia actually offered Ukraine to carry out political reform and become a federal state in order to prevent the growth of centrifugal sentiments. The idea that Moscow offered Kyiv a way to survive and not collapse simply does not occur to them,” the publication says.

According to the newspaper, the idea of creating a SEZ on the basis of the Odessa region is a natural reaction of local authorities to the lawlessness, inaction and incompetence of the central government.

“Of course, now all this talk about the “Odessa People’s Republic” has no serious basis. Even the status of the “free city of Chernomorsk” is not yet discussed. But when Ukraine faces much more serious problems of basic survival of the population (which is what the current government led by Zelensky is leading the country to), then such a solution will be optimal. And not only for Odessa,” the author believes.

“Only it will be much easier for Odessa to “swim away” from Ukraine. In case the idea of “porto-franco” can come true. And, oddly enough, her future depends no longer on herself, but on Kyiv. In which this is not understood. They don’t want to or simply can’t,” KP sums up.
