Odessa, Kharkov and Dnepropetrovsk are Putin’s key goals, - Kiev newspaper
Kyiv, June 02 (Navigator, Mikhail Ryabov) – The Kiev weekly “Comments” published options for further developments in the South-East: the publication claims that the new state formation of Novorossiya will be viable only if it includes not only Donbass, but also Kharkov , Donetsk, as well as Odessa, however, such a scenario is unlikely.

The magazine emphasizes that the Lugansk and Donetsk regions will not do without subsidies, since their economies can easily be destroyed by the efforts of official Kyiv - Donbass does not have its own water resources for heavy industry. Currently, a 263 km long canal, originating in the Dnepropetrovsk region, is used for these purposes.
The publication claims that in this case, Donbass will be subsidized - Russia will have to spend about $10 billion a year on its maintenance. But Moscow will be able to take control of several important enterprises - for example, the Khartsyzsk Pipe Plant (produces pipes for Gazprom) and Azovmash (produces railway tanks). But many businesses, on the contrary, may close.
The publication considers the spread of the uprising to the southern regions - Kherson, Nikolaev, Zaporozhye - unlikely, since pro-Russian sentiments are less widespread here, and local elites are more skeptical of the Russian Federation. The situation is different in Odessa.
Nevertheless, the magazine admits, the creation of Novorossiya with the inclusion of the southern regions, Donbass, Kharkov and Dnepropetrovsk is the most disastrous option for Kyiv.

The Dnepropetrovsk and Kharkov regions today are key for the separatists, both economically and politically... They can give a powerful impetus to the development of an unrecognized state. They have seriously developed mining, metallurgical, engineering and crop production industries. The regions have a more proactive population than Donbass and most regions of Novorossiya. Ore deposits and control over the Dnieper-Donbass canal will ensure the functioning of metallurgy... The ports, in turn, will ensure exports...
In fact, this is the only viable option for creating an unrecognized state on the territory of southeast Ukraine,” the publication states.
The authors of the material believe that then the borders of Novorossiya may also advance to the Poltava region to gain control over oil refineries, mechanical engineering enterprises and the Poltava Mining and Processing Plant. Novorossiya may also be interested in the Kirovograd uranium mining region.
However, the newspaper reassures readers, “such a scenario is practically impossible.”
“To implement it, it is necessary to begin long-term, full-scale military operations over a large territory, where the ideas of separatism do not have significant support from the elites and the population. The actions of local elites to protect their regions are already creating serious opposition to the Russian Federation and the separatists,” the material states.
