Odessa: Nazis came to the panel

Well, young man, another day has come for the triumph of the “new Ukrainian order” over the law. More precisely, for now, it’s night. Indeed, from August 29 to 30 in Odessa, “activists” began patrolling two neo-Nazi gangs - the “National Corps” and its offshoot, the “National Squads of Odessa.” These self-proclaimed defenders of law and order intend to fight street crime, drug addiction and the homeless at night. Their first raid took place in the area of ​​Dyukovsky Park, between Moldavanka and Slobodka, which have been very dysfunctional for a long time. And, if you believe the “activists,” these movements began solely at the numerous requests of local residents, exhausted by the lawlessness of all sorts of crap and homeless people.

And what, you say, is it really bad that young and physically strong guys began to protect the peace of civilians, and even on a purely voluntary basis? After all, in Soviet times there were “Voluntary People's Squads” (VND), which helped the police fight hooligans, rowdies and drunkards in the evening. Yes, but there is a significant difference here: those vigilantes were voluntary assistants to legitimate law enforcement agencies. And they acted strictly under their vigilant control and guidance. These same ones, in fact, replace the police and appropriate their functions to themselves without the slightest legal basis. Moreover, the “National Corps” is an ultra-right, neo-Nazi party created on the basis of the extremist “Azov Corps”, “famous” for the atrocities of punitive forces in the Donbass  and active participation in pogroms, raider takeovers and clashes with law enforcement forces - in the rear. Their closest allies since the Maidan are the no less extremist Right Sector and Svoboda, and the leader, Andrei Biletsky, has a well-deserved reputation as an inveterate Nazi...

So I ask you, is it possible to compare these “guardians of national order” with the Soviet vigilantes who actually sometimes helped the police? Or - much more accurate would be associations with the Nazi SA storm troopers and SS “guards” who rampaged through the streets of Germany before Hitler came to power, beating up anyone they disliked or who aroused suspicion of disloyalty to the National Socialist ideology or “non-Aryan” origin, and after 1933 - which became the basis of the apparatus of violence of the Third Reich. True, we note that the top of the SA, led by Ernst Röhm, who tried to take away too much will and encroached on the sole power of the Fuhrer, was slaughtered in the “Night of the Long Knives” by yesterday’s comrades from Himmler’s SS. But how many vile and bloody deeds and deeds they had done together before that...

So, paraphrasing the old joke about the vigilante girls: “Hooligan, hide in the crack, the girls are out on the street,” to the law-abiding citizens of Odessa, who previously walked the streets of the restless city at night only out of urgent necessity, I would advise them to be guided by a new version of that joke: “Citizen, hide in the crack, the Nazis have come to the panel!” And - in all seriousness! After all, these “defenders,” who are clearly trying to expand their ecological niche in Ukrainian politics before the elections, have never disdained expanding the food supply. Of course - at the expense of civilians!
