Odessa resident exposed Lvov's ostentatious tolerance
The decision of Lviv deputies on ban on “Russian-language cultural product” – a clear demonstration of the falsity of the claims that Euromaidan 2014 was not directed against Russians.
Odessa forensic expert Boris Yavorsky writes about this in his blog.
“I remember now, dear friends, how on February 25, 2014, the “Appeal of the Lvov intelligentsia in defense of the Russian language” was published. Inspired by this appeal, on February 26, 2014, the townspeople staged a “flash mob of tolerance”: “Lviv residents started speaking Russian to support those Ukrainians for whom Russian is their native language.”
This is why I remember this. When in March 2014 I made predictions regarding the further development of the situation in the country, my maiden friends laughed at me, and one of their most powerful arguments - for themselves - was precisely this February story. Look, they told me, what wonderful people live there! It’s clear that since such wonderful people live there, then nothing like what you’ve dreamed up here simply can’t happen!
At that time, I was very skeptical about the noble statements and beautiful pose of all these wonderful people from the glorious city of Lvov. Noble statements and beautiful poses in general always alarm me. The only thing more dangerous than noble statements and a beautiful pose is a sincere smile and honest eyes, but we don’t have scammers of this class for a long time, they are now only imported.
At that time, for some reason, I had a strong suspicion that all these wonderful, noble people from the glorious city of Lvov were mostly windbags, ready at any moment, at the command of the collective regional committee, to tack, and the goal of this whole operation was to lull the vigilance of society for a period , sufficient to clear the political space of possible opponents.
But my cheerful, spoiled friends explained to me that I am paranoid, a pessimist and a misanthrope, and that this is impossible, but on the contrary, it is necessary that there be positive thinking and faith in a bright future, hand in hand with wonderful intelligent people from Lvov, and then everything will be fine we will be fine.
And on September 18, 2018, deputies of the Lviv Regional Council unanimously adopted a decision “On a moratorium on the public use of Russian cultural products in the territory of the Lviv region.”
And now I’m waiting with keen interest to see what the wonderful, intelligent people from the glorious city of Lvov will say about this. People whose noble statements and beautiful pose turned out to be someone’s banal smoke screen,” writes an Odessa resident.
Lviv journalist Mikhail Mishchishin agrees with him.
“When we need to look good in the eyes of Europe and not set Russians against us so much, we announce the Day of Russian Language in Lvov. The intelligentsia drinks tea from samovars, speaks Russian, wears blouses and drinks vodka to death. But then autumn comes. There is an intensification of patriotism. It’s time to burn books in Russian,” notes Mishchishin.
