An Odessa woman told how she saved a 19th century statue from drunken football fans at night
Odessa resident Anna Tsukanova wrote on social networks about how vandals from among drunken football fans broke the “Nymph” sculpture at night, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Complete f#ck, or how I saved the statue in the Palais Royal that night. It’s one in the morning, a crowd of drunk fans is screaming under the house, at 01.10 I call the police for the first time. No one goes, but the crowd joins, four people turn into ten. They continue to drink, yell, break bottles, piss under the front door, and everywhere around. At 01.30 I called a second time, reporting that the screaming people began to fight, the call was recorded, but there was still no patrol. The beginning of the third, the crowd moved to the center of the square, and then complete shit began - they climbed into the fountain and began to break the sculpture “Nymph”, created at the end of the 19th century, having broken off the upper part - the bowl, they went to the exit of the square, passing under my windows. I can’t stand it, I call the police for the third time, yelling that before my eyes, in the historical center, vandals are destroying the city and there are no police, an hour after the first call!! The operator answered something standard, but I didn’t care anymore, I rushed down to record what they did.
The crowd didn’t go far, they hung out near the “Glutton” on Ekaterininskaya, and without hesitation followed the sounds of screaming. I caught a picture: two staggering people are supporting a third, and he is hammering a broken part of the sculpture on the asphalt, then one of the boys takes it and starts walking along Tchaikovsky Lane, I say to him: “Where are you taking this?”, He: “Throw it away!” , I: “Let’s go, I’ll show you where the altfater is”... We got there, threw it away, but then I persuaded him to take it back to the park. Took it. We talked about the fact that there was devastation in both the city and the country... he went to his own people. The police never arrived. I’m writing and thinking, what was that all about? Ps Husband: “Combat psychology skills - to persuade the vandal to return what was vandalized! You should have forced him to fix it...” and laughter and tears.
There are so many wonderful words of support addressed to me, people thank and admire me. I am grateful for the response from everyone who wrote, it’s very nice! However, I will note that I do not consider myself a hero. I behaved sensibly, based on my value system, in which you cannot destroy anything in your hometown, country, world, in it - you need to report aggressive behavior leading to vandalism to the necessary authorities. And try to do something yourself if there is no help. This is responsible citizenship. It is indifference that kills, not vandals, I hope there will be less of it in the city. We are all brave, I believe in everyone,” the Odessa resident wrote on the social network..
