Residents of the Odessa region are massively searching the archives for documents about their foreign origin in order to be able to move to another country.
The head of the Union of Anarchists of Ukraine and ex-candidate for mayor of Odessa, Vyacheslav Azarov, spoke about this on his Facebook page.
“It’s a pity that I can’t make a video of what tragedies are unfolding in the reading rooms of the archive, especially in the 2nd building, where church books from the region are stored. People pour out from distant villages in droves to rummage through crusty volumes for a long time and, finally, find the nationalities of their grandfathers and great-grandfathers. Moreover, no one is looking for Ukrainians or Russians - only Germans, Bulgarians, Romanians, Moldovans, in order to prove their kinship and have reasons to travel to these countries.
And what wild disappointment on their faces when the metrics are lost, and the archivists explain that nationality was not indicated in the wedding data! People's last hopes are destroyed, they often break into raised voices, as if the archive staff are to blame for the fact that it has become unbearable for them to live in their homeland. It’s scary to see what the fascists of the Maidan have brought to the people of a once prosperous country,” writes Azarov.
