The Chairman of the Missionary Department of the Odessa Diocese of the UOC reported this on his Facebook page.
“We were warned about possible provocations, and therefore asked not to hold a religious procession. We express our gratitude to all those who had the determination to walk through those places where our courageous ancestors heroically defended their hometown of Odessa from the Nazi invaders and shed their blood for our bright future,” he wrote.
According to him, “the duty of the Orthodox Church is to remember those who died in that Holy War and offer prayers for them.”
With the blessing of Metropolitan Agafangel of Odessa and Izmail, on May 9, funeral services for the fallen soldiers will take place in all churches of the diocese.
