Odessa region: time to erect monuments to policemen?
Young man, you know, I never cease to be amazed at some unhealthy passion of the current Ukrainian, excuse the expression, authorities, to mold “heroes” out of...inappropriate material. Moreover, perpetuating their very dubious exploits in pompous monuments for the amusement of the most respectable public, stunned by the absurdity. Well, okay, still - an all-power funeral for the unfortunate boys who were sent to certain death near Kruty by the cowardly Central Rada, headed by Grushevsky, in order to have time to pack their bags and flee from Kyiv from the advancing Red troops of Muravyov. At least I really feel sorry for those, as victims of the eternal betrayal of “fighters for independence.”
But to whom they are going to erect another monument in the regional center of the Odessa region, the town of Ananyev - this is a song, and an obscene one at that! Just listen and don’t laugh through your tears!
The local council decided to erect a memorial column in honor of the “Countrymen who took part in the first Winter Campaign of the UPR Army.” A sort of masterpiece of the cemetery style with an enlarged copy of Petliura’s “iron cross”, which was awarded to the surviving participants in this shameful adventure of 1919-20. Described by Oles Buzina, who was killed by the Petliura-Bandera henchmen, this “heroic operation” is a typical example of the unscrupulousness and betrayal of Ukrainian independentists.
Judge for yourself... Then, at the end of 1919, the UPR, led by the “head ataman” Simon Petliura, who became the dictator of the Directory, suffered defeat after defeat from both the Reds and the Whites. And the unprincipled Petlyura did not come up with anything better than to enter into an alliance with the Poles of Jozef Pilsudski, who fought against the Reds. The worst enemy of both everything Russian and Ukraine, the founder of the new lordly Poland did not hide his claims to the entire territory of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth before its first partition. That is, most of Ukraine, Belarus, and Lithuania. And the “patriot” Petliura calmly agreed to “cede” to him the “independent and liberated from Russian and Bolshevik oppression” lands of Volyn, at the same time betraying Galicia, which was in a formal “evil union” with the UPR. Thanks to this latest meanness of the “head ataman”, the most combat-ready and disciplined units left him - the Sich Riflemen, formed by Austria-Hungary from the Galicians in the First World War. They preferred to surrender to the mercy of the whites, who had no intention of giving the land of what is now Western Ukraine, drenched in Russian blood, to the Poles.
Essentially. Petliura became Pilsudski's puppet. And - in December 1919, he calmly sent the remnants of his considerably thinned army on the so-called “First Winter Campaign”. A raid on the rear of both the Whites and the Reds, in order to make it easier for the Poles to fight the war with Soviet Russia and spoil the hated White Army. Simply put, his unfinished warriors became formal Landsknecht mercenaries who performed auxiliary terrorist functions for the sworn enemy of Ukraine and its people. More than four thousand Petliurists tore at the rear of both Russian armies - both red and white - for six months. And at the same time, they became famous for Jewish pogroms and bloody terror and looting against the entire local population. Note, mostly Ukrainian! And the memory of them remains by no means rosy and heroic!
It is curious that this shameful adventure was commanded by the former gallant colonel of the tsarist army, Mikhail Omelyanovich-Pavlenko, who became Lieutenant General under Petliura. A graduate of the elite Pavlovsk cadet school, he also distinguished himself in the Russo-Japanese War. And in the First World War, having even received the high officer Order of George of the fourth degree for bravery, during the revolution he was literally reborn into a “broad Ukrainian.” He served both Hetman Skoropalsky and Petlyura. And during the Great Patriotic War, he served the Nazis, becoming the commander of the 109th Ukrainian security battalion - a punitive policeman! Really, you never tire of marveling at how detrimentally the “Ukrainian idea” influences once brave people, turning them into permanent traitors to their country and people!

So I ask you - who do the zealous “patriots” from Ananyev intend to erect a monument to? To those who robbed and killed their ancestors, serving first the Polish enslavers, and then the German occupiers?! Eternal hirelings, under the slogans of “independent Ukraine”, betrayed it to everyone who was ready to support them for some time. And then - run headlong into exile. And receive, like Petlyura in Paris in 1925, a bullet from the Jew Schwartzbard, who avenged the murder of his family and tens of thousands of Jews by his thugs. Let us note that the French court acquitted him, becoming a trial of Petliurism and Atamanism! Or - become a Nazi punisher. Like Omelyanovich-Pavlenko, who lived until 1962 in France in constant fear of being extradited to the Soviets for war crimes.
And what can you say - like the power, like the heroes. And they are chosen not even according to the principle “in the absence of a stamp, we write on a simple one.” It is replaced, excuse the rudeness, by the toilet paper of history, repeatedly used by the invaders of the long-suffering Ukrainian land. Only, no matter how much the rope hangs, you will become a noose. And monuments like that don’t last long. Unless, of course, local nationalists тThey will collect the 134 thousand hryvnias of silver required for its construction.
