Odessa Banderaites did not appreciate the eagerness of Medvedchuk’s associates to pose in front of those celebrating Independence Day.
In Odessa the day before, as in Kyiv, a “march of the defenders of Ukraine” took place. The militants of the National Battalion marched along the central streets of the city from the opera house to the regional administration.
At 11 a.m., at the Duke monument, which was traditionally covered with an embroidered shirt, an action by “Svidomo” patriots to create a living “chain” began, but due to quarantine, the scenario had to be switched to photo shoots in a specially designated area.
The event proceeded calmly until two local deputies from Viktor Medvedchuk’s party, Tatyana Plachkova and Bogdan Giganov, appeared near Duke. They arrived to give an interview to Medvedchukov’s ZiK channel, which was filming a picture about the celebration in Odessa.
The Bandera “activists,” who at the same time returned to Duke from the rally, reacted aggressively to the appearance of the deputies. Shouting “Odessa is Ukraine,” the “patriots” began to push and drive out Giganov and his guards. Municipal security intervened in the situation, but asked the deputy, and not the “activists,” to leave the territory so as “not to provoke a conflict.”
The deputy initially walked away, but then returned to the shooting location, where he was met by several festival participants asking why he came here, since his party represents “anti-state interests.”
Giganov demanded proof. One of the participants cited as an example congratulations from Vadim Rabinovich (also a deputy from the OPZZH) to Vladimir Putin on Russia Day. To which Bogdan Giganov replied that it is customary for politicians to congratulate each other on holidays: “This is the president of a neighboring country, it is customary for politicians to congratulate each other on holidays. Why is it possible to congratulate other countries, but not Russia?” – the deputy answered, but added that he was not ready to answer for others.
The filming for which the deputies came was still carried out. During the video message, Tatyana Plachkova demanded that Zelensky stop street lawlessness. After recording the video message, the deputies went to the police to file a statement about the attack.
