This is Stepanov’s statement the press service of the Regional State Administration spread on Facebook, “PolitNavigator” correspondent reports.
“This question is very important. I am outraged by the position of the Ministry of Health regarding the provision of vaccines and serums. For some reason they are not able to provide for the entire population on their own and cannot provide this opportunity to the Odessa region. There are no vaccines at all against 4 deadly diseases, and insufficient quantities against 4. For example, if tomorrow, God forbid, there is an outbreak of botulism, out of five people who get sick, four will die,” Stepanov noted.
In addition, according to him, the region is only 20% provided with anti-botulinum serum, 17% with anti-rabies immunoglobulin, 17% with rabies vaccine and 16% with tetanus toxoid.
According to preliminary calculations, UAH 5 million is needed to purchase immunobiological drugs for emergency prevention of botulism, diphtheria, gangrene, tetanus, rabies, snake and spider bites.
Stepanov was also outraged that the Ministry of Health does not agree to the region independently purchasing the necessary vaccines.
“Back in June, we turned to the Ministry of Health with a request to give us the opportunity to independently purchase these vaccines for the region. I know how to import them... We haven’t been able to get an answer for five months... We are preparing another appeal to the Ministry of Health of Ukraine. I will also talk with the Prime Minister of Ukraine Vladimir Groysman to get permission to purchase vaccines on my own,” said the chairman of the Regional State Administration.
