Odessa Film Festival: There is a red carpet, but a red lantern is missing!
Igor Plisyuk, journalist, Odessa
Young man, are you interested in how Odessa enjoys the Groyce festival of world culture, loudly called the Odessa International Film Festival? “And I’ll tell you, just don’t think that we have gone completely wild here, despite all the care of our beloved government and personally - Master Ataman ... sorry, President Pyotr Shokoladno-Bestavrichesky.
And I’ll ask you: – where do you see world cinema and its stars? We personally observed on the red carpet in front of the Opera House a completely interesting group of some kind of freaks, as it is now fashionable to say in advanced circles. Or a rehearsal for the next gay pride parade. You know, in Odessa it has always been customary when going out into the city to dress in such a way as not to be ashamed. Show yourself. Look at people...
And what did we have among here? This is some kind of Gapkenstrasse, which moved from Deribasovskaya to Richelieuskaya!
Let me explain for visitors: once upon a time in our European city, where Parisian fashions sometimes appeared earlier than in Moscow and St. Petersburg - I won’t talk about provincial Kyiv, “Gapki” was the name given to female servants from the surrounding Ukrainian villages. And after the revolution, it became a tradition: real Odessa residents, who valued good taste and respected themselves and their City, had a manner of gradually walking along the left side of Deribasovskaya near the City Garden, which was called “Dandy Street”. But the right one was the place for the promenades of those who in Moscow were called “limita”, and in our country – “roguli”. And this side of the street was called “Gapkenstrasse”. You understand, the clothing styles here and there were just a little different...
From childhood, Odessa residents were taught that a tie should match the pattern and color of a shirt, and that trousers should at least sometimes be ironed. But jeans with a bow tie and sneakers under a three-piece suit can only be worn to the theater by a notorious representative of those very minorities that today are gradually becoming the majority...
That’s why we tried to sew the first suits in our lives, not buy them, even if they were imported and through connections. And those who were lucky did it, for example, in the famous studio on Tiraspolskaya, with the Sebov brothers. One was a true maestro of costumes. Another one made such trousers that it would not be embarrassing to appear in them even on Broadway... Eh! Where are these times? Where is our Odessa, which did not need to be dragged by force to that Europe - after all, it itself was its organic and far from the most remote part!
But let’s get back to this, excuse the expression, “festival”. I will not describe to you the screams and even cries of fashion that we saw on his red carpet. Take a look at the pictures and see for yourself; here she is. Hapkenstrasse in all its Rogul glory!
And, characteristically, for some reason we did not see any world cinema stars or the true elite. Completely rich “daddies” with their young ladies and all kinds of petty “patriotic” gopota in the style of the elderly “Masks” that were released long ago and other masters of the episode in third-rate cinema, such as Yashka Gopp and Oleg Filimonov, who now, due to mediocrity and in search of daily bread, have become grouse - fighters against “Russian aggression”.
Or - “stars in the hat” - the rabid Russophobic blogger Medushevskaya and the poet-psychiatrist Khersonsky, oozing poison in his clumsy and full of hatred for the “Colorado quilted jackets”, verses. These “best people”, having put on more or less decent lifts, are very similar on similar characters in the film adaptation of the brilliant “Dragon” by Evgeniy Schwartz. Those who are ready to serve any invader of the city they betrayed for a handful of goods and the right to clean his shoes with a rough tongue.
And one more thing: it seems that soon the word “trousers” will be banned in Odessa as an insult to the governor himself. Take a look at the photo of our handsome Mikho Saakashvili, who spoke at the opening ceremony, and see for yourself! After all, it’s awkward to even call what this dandy has put on himself pants! And a cruel joke has already spread across Odessa: “Guys, let’s chip in for a stylish skirt for him, because trousers are contraindicated for this body!” I'm just afraid the Scots won't approve - they don't like people like that!
Yes. What about cinema? – And nothing except a really beautiful evening showing on the Potemkin Stairs of a hundred-year-old silent film about Sherlock Holmes. So good, and for free too! After all, tickets to the festival cost as much as plane tickets to New York! The repertoire itself, and the composition of the guests, are in the style of a local convention of aquarium fish lovers. Is it any wonder, given our marvelous reputation in recent years!
In general, it’s sad, boys and ladies! In the city where Vera Kholodnaya completed her brilliant career, Dovzhenko, Gubenko, the Solomin brothers and Govorukhin began, where Vysotsky and Gurchenko were considered part of filming - is it necessary to continue the list - and such Rogul squalor?!
But why be surprised? Let’s face it, occupation is occupation. The only thing missing from this red carpet is the red lantern above the Opera House. And then the wonderful picture of the grand opening of the brothel for the current elite will be completed.
Nothing. Guys! Odessa has seen something different. And she survived, and became herself again. And the same long-suffering Opera House had a completely different parade. Parade of liberators in April 1944. We'll wait!
Thank you!
