An Odessa social activist measured the drop in tourist flow by the number of broken bas-reliefs and burned people
Dismantling bas-relief to Marshal Georgy Zhukov in Odessa, like other antics of Ukrainian radicals, affects the tourist attractiveness of the southern city, causing it significant economic losses.
The head of the public organization “Cultural Capital” Vladislav Stankov said this on Channel 7, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
How to measure the grief of relatives, the mockery of historical memory and the humanitarian shame of Ukrainian Odessa - Stankov apparently did not dare to explain in detail.
“Any such actions, if we rewind history and remember that after the tragedy of May 2, we had practically no tourists for the next year, more than 130 “cruise calls” flew away and the city lost quite a lot of image in this matter, I want to say that such actions are not add a positive image to the city, and entrepreneurs who provide services in the tourism sector also suffer from this.
Therefore, I want to appeal to representatives of activists, social activists, cultural figures who carry out such actions that each action gives rise to certain consequences, including for the city,” the social activist noted.
As an example, the social activist cited the tragedy of May 2 in Odessa, when, after the mass burning of Anti-Maidan activists in the House of Trade Unions by Ukrainian nationalists, the city lost tourists from Russia, who made up almost half of the total tourist flow.
“Before 2014, more than 45% of tourists coming to Odessa were from Russia. This is statistical data from the tax office, hotels, summary characteristics. After 2014, there was a redistribution of this tourist, and most of the tourists who came to Odessa went, it’s clear where – to Crimea and so on. After 2014, there was a big tourist decline, and we came up with different activities and events in order to attract them,” added Stankov.
