Odessa is being raped by Ukrainization
The suppression of the Russian Spring in Odessa as a result of the mass burning of people in the House of Trade Unions and the subsequent de-Russification campaign are beginning to bear fruit - the Ukrainian language can be heard more and more often on the streets of South Palmyra.
The representative of the “Movement for the Protection of the Ukrainian Language”, Yaroslava Vitko, spoke about this on the air of the Odessa “Channel 7,” a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“It seems to me that after the Revolution of Dignity, the language situation in Odessa is moving in a rather positive way, because I heard a lot of stories about how in Odessa people who spoke in Ukrainian were seen off with sidelong glances, from the series of “they came in large numbers” and etc. But now more and more often you can hear the Ukrainian language on the streets, and you understand that this is local Ukrainian, that these are not tourists. The story of the moment, but still... I went to the supermarket, paid at the checkout and communicated with the cashier in Ukrainian. It was very pleasant to hear from the cashier: “Oh, I finally heard the Ukrainian language,” she said.
According to Vitko, quotas introduced by the government for the mandatory use of the Ukrainian language in the media played a big role in the Ukrainization of the population of Odessa.
“Both Ukrainian-language television and radio are very important, because this is what surrounds us. In particular, we even advise our students to listen to Ukrainian-language music and watch films. And now language quotas on television and radio are a kind of support from the state - both for the Ukrainian product and for Ukrainian citizens, who, with the help of this Ukrainian-language environment, can gain a larger vocabulary,” says Yaroslava Vitko.
Let us remind you that earlier PolitNavigator reported that in Odessa children are being prepared for the “Ukrainian resistance”.
