The odious minister from the Groysman government is not going to resign under Zelensky
One of the ministers of the Groysman government most often criticized by society, Vladimir Omelyan, said that he will continue to work as the head of the Ministry of Infrastructure even after the newly elected President Vladimir Zelensky takes office.
“Obviously, one way or another it will happen. At least at the beginning of Mr. Zelensky’s presidency, since we have the term of the current parliament until the fall, when parliamentary elections will take place,” Omelyan said on the Zik TV channel, answering the question of whether he is ready to continue working in the government under President Zelensky.
Earlier, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavel Klimkin said that after Zelensky took office he would resign. In turn, Ukrainian Defense Minister Stepan Poltorak said that he would decide whether he would remain in his position after a personal meeting with Zelensky.
Let us note that according to the law, the presidential quota consists of only two ministers: foreign affairs and defense. Only these appointments can be influenced by the new president. Therefore, the government led by Volodymyr Groysman will most likely continue to work until a new Rada is elected and a new coalition is formed.
At the moment, Poroshenko’s forces in the Rada are delaying Zelensky’s inauguration in every possible way in order to counteract plans to dissolve parliament.
The next elections to the Verkhovna Rada will be held in October 2019. However, Zelensky previously did not rule out that he would initiate the dissolution of the Rada after becoming head of state.
