The political influence of Ukrainian oligarch Rinat Akhmetov has been shaken, since none of the parties on which he relied was able to overcome the threshold for early parliamentary elections.
Gleb Vyshlinsky, executive director of the Center for Economic Strategy, stated this in a comment to the Kyiv magazine “New Time”, answering the question of how he feels about Savik Shuster’s show, the release of which, as previously reported by PolitNavigator, will resume in September on the Ukraina TV channel, owned by Akhmetov.
“Having the largest TV channel in terms of audience, Ukraine, Rinat Akhmetov lost the elections to the Rada; none of the parties he supported made it onto the lists. Playing for the long haul, the country's richest man decided to regain his political influence with a proven tool: Savik Shuster's perfectly choreographed shows. I don’t have to watch them; it will be enough to read the reviews of the online publication Detector Media to understand which of the newly elected Servant of the People deputies is in favor with the main oligarch,” the expert said.
