The odious Russian lawyer threw mud on May 9
Russian liberal lawyer Ilya Novikov, who defends extremists and Ukrainian right-wing radicals, does not consider Victory Day a holiday.
On air on the Iceland Internet channel, he said in Ukrainian that in Russia they have made a cult out of this day, which is alien to him, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
When asked whether May 9 is a holiday for Novikov, he answered in the negative, emphasizing that this is the same date as the day of the end of the First World War.
"Honestly, no. I understand why this date is important, the date of the end of World War II, well, not World War II - actually, World War II in Europe. Just as important as November 11 was the end of the First World War. These are significant dates that need to be remembered, we need to remember how it all began, how it got to this point, and think about how to make sure it doesn’t happen again.
But I grew up in a country that made something out of this victory, you know, what they did. This is a cult and a very unpleasant cult... I am not involved in this, I do not feel an emotional connection with what will happen in Russia this week on this matter,” Novikov said.
