“Only walls” - in Kyiv they spoke about the catastrophic situation in the defense sector
Ukraine is not able to attract enough funds to develop modern and effective weapons - Western “partners” will not give money, and the Ukroboronprom enterprises are left with bare walls.
The head of the expert organization StateWatch, Gleb Kanevsky, stated this during a press conference in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The whole world is watching how the Dome in Israel repels missile attacks. I wondered, for example, whether the Ukrainian military-industrial complex could create such a system? You know, in my opinion, there is strategic potential, but there are specific legal and financial restrictions that are holding Ukraine back from a leap forward in defense technologies.
For example, the same “Dome” is a system developed by an Israeli state enterprise. Can the state concern Ukroboronprom attract any investment from the United States today? Absolutely not, and in fact they don’t do it because they can’t,” he said.
The expert also noted that the Ukrainian defense industry has been destroyed - it is saddled with a huge debt, and from many enterprises there is nothing left but walls.
“Another serious limitation that I see: a year ago, the concern and the parliamentary committee involved the public in the development of the bill, and at this committee unprecedented information was announced, which had actually been kept silent for the last five to seven years about the real situation of the concern and its debts.
Then the committee announced that the total debts of all enterprises could reach 14 billion hryvnia. 17 enterprises actually died out and were recently transferred to the state property fund for privatization, why? Because half of them are no longer actually production facilities - they are land, walls and several guards,” Kanevsky concluded.
