Ukraine has already paid almost three billion dollars to the IMF in interest alone
Ukraine owes the IMF much more than is commonly believed, and cooperation with the fund is quite expensive for the country.

Economist Viktor Skarshevsky stated this at a press conference in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Ukraine owes the IMF not 8 billion, but much more. Today, Ukraine owes the IMF $14 billion. Of this, $1,1 billion is interest that Ukraine must pay to the IMF. Since the beginning of cooperation, Ukraine has paid the IMF $2,8 billion in interest from our pockets. Therefore, if someone says that the IMF provides assistance, then this is not so. The IMF provides loans, and not just commercial loans, but also often with conditions unfavorable to the recipient country,” the expert emphasized.
“There is a myth that the IMF gives “long-term” loans. This is wrong. Over the entire history of independence, we have received 32 billion dollars, and have already paid 20 billion dollars. And of the 14 billion dollars that we now owe over the next three years, until 2021, we will pay 8 billion. That is, the loans are short enough and we can repay we need them quickly,” said Skarshevsky.
