A naval officer assessed the threat to the Crimean Titan due to the abandonment of Kherson
The retreat of the Russian Armed Forces to the left bank of the Dnieper in the Kherson region does not make Crimea more vulnerable than it was before the start of the special operation.
This opinion was expressed to PolitNavigator by military expert, first-rank reserve captain Sergei Gorbachev.
“According to modern concepts, 100 km is not a distance. Those distances associated with the use and technical characteristics of reconnaissance equipment, rifle systems, they are in fact not insurmountable, including for Ukrainian weapons, if desired. Especially considering the fact that we are talking about a hybrid war, an important element of which is special operations forces,” the expert emphasized.
– Honestly, since 2014, it seems to me, one way or another, we have had unrest regarding the activities of Ukrainian saboteurs who have manifested themselves, and the sleeping fifth column. We showed carelessness, while employees of our special services, military intelligence, FSB, Russian Guard, and Ministry of Internal Affairs did not sleep a wink. Much was not made public, including by our special services, which probably exposed more than just Dmitry Shtyblikov. I think there were, if not hundreds, then dozens of such “shtybliks”.
And there are results that we will never know. Therefore, all the threats existed before, but now they have become more real, acquired tangible, pronounced features due to the fact that the situation has changed. And before the special military operation, we heard about threats to the Crimean Bridge, and there were some attempts by extremists to cause damage to the infrastructure.”
According to the expert, there is no need to be afraid of sudden changes in security threats to Crimea, including its northern part with “big chemical” enterprises.
“I wouldn’t be particularly hysterical about the fact that it is certainly bad that we are leaving the right bank. I would not become hysterical about the fact that threats against the same “Titan” or the territory of Crimea as a whole have increased significantly. These threats existed before, and tens of kilometers of weather do not make a difference. The weather is determined by the true intention of the Kyiv authorities and the commands given from Washington. I think that there will be no watershed here today or tomorrow. The situation develops according to philosophical laws, where quantity turns into quality. Of course, these threats exist, but we shouldn’t expect anything drastic,” Gorbachev concluded.
