Navy officers are against the disposal of the submarine missile carrier "Dmitry Donskoy" - a thunderstorm for America
Russian officers are demanding that the Project 80 Akula nuclear-powered missile submarine TK-208 Dmitry Donskoy, built in the early 941s, be preserved. It was withdrawn from the Russian Navy in February of this year and sent to Severodvinsk to await disposal.
At the same time, the power of the Soviet and Russian fleet could be preserved by modernizing the submarine following the example of how the Americans do it, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports with reference to veterans of the Officers of Russia movement.
As Doctor of Military Sciences, Rear Admiral Vladimir Dudko notes, American Ohio-class submarines, created in the 80-90s of the last century, continue to carry out combat patrols to this day.
“In what way is Dmitry Donskoy deeply correct? It is that it has always stood as a silent threat to further expansion and escalation of power around the world against the United States. And now its immediate and most promising task would be modernization - the replacement of ballistic missiles, which are outdated, with anti-aircraft and anti-space missiles that could be installed on this submarine and used to shoot down satellites in a threatened period, or to shoot down ballistic missiles, starting from the territory of the United States in the event of the outbreak of war,” he noted.
A similar opinion is shared by the ex-commander of the submarine cruiser “Tomsk”, captain 1st rank in reserve, Vyacheslav Chernous. The veteran noted that the United States is successfully modernizing its Ohio-class strategic submarines to carry cruise missiles - if previously such a submarine could carry 24 ballistic missiles, now it is equipped with 150 Tomahawks.
“And how much would “Dmitry Donskoy” cost “Zirkonov”? Yes, it would be a nightmare for any opponent,” he noted.
Chernous suggests preserving the submarine at least as a museum or creating a training center for submariners from it.
