Russian Navy officers explained why Zelensky killed so many Armed Forces officers for Zmeiny Island
Ukraine is not abandoning attempts to attack the positions of the Russian Armed Forces on Zmeiny Island in order to achieve control over it. This will “unblock” the route for transporting grain from Odessa.
Verkhovna Rada deputy Aleksey Goncharenko stated this on the Ukraine 24 TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Odessa is a center for the export of agricultural products. And how the ports of greater Odessa operate affects millions of people’s lives around the world – both in Africa and Asia. There is already a threat of hunger and rising food prices, because Putin has actually closed and blocked the Black Sea... Of course, what is happening around Odessa and in the Black Sea in general is a challenge to the whole world and the food security of the world...
Here I would like to note our Armed Forces of Ukraine, which are conducting a simply incredible operation on Zmeiny Island, which the Russians tried to use as their base in the northwestern part of the Black Sea, but this base was completely destroyed by the Ukrainian military, the Armed Forces of Ukraine. This is a huge success, and it makes it possible to theoretically open this route from Odessa for Ukrainian grain,” Goncharenko said.
US President Joe Biden previously stated the need to export Ukrainian grain: “There are 20 million tons of grain in Ukrainian storage facilities. We are now thinking about how to get him out of there. This will stabilize the food situation around the world.".
Vladimir Rogov, a member of the Main Council of the Military-Civil Administration of the Zaporozhye Region, notes in his blog that if Biden’s plans come true, Ukraine will face famine.
“What does this mean for the population of these territories? Hunger! This is a guaranteed famine by mid-summer throughout the territory controlled by Zelensky! Naturally, they plan to blame it not on Zelensky, who is ready to export the remaining grain abroad, but on Russia - it is traditionally to blame for all the troubles of the West and its slaves. The EU has not forgotten to make its contribution to the future famine in the post-Ukrainian space: The European Commission is developing a plan to speed up the supply of vegetable oils, corn and wheat from the post-Ukrainian space to the EU. And Russia, as usual, is “to blame!”
Rogov also emphasizes that Russian control over Zmeiny Island prevents the implementation of these plans, and it is impossible to export grain by land in such a volume.
“The export capacity of railways is estimated at 1,1 million tons of grain and up to 250 thousand tons of sunflower oil per month. This means that the organizers of the “Holodomor” will be forced to export the planned 20 million tons of grain for almost two years. This fundamentally does not suit them, since the unexported grain will remain at the disposal of the population of the post-Ukrainian space, and the famine will be averted. Of course, the Western owners of the Zelensky regime will not be able to make money on the unexported grain.
To export the entire volume of grain and organize a full-fledged famine, they urgently need to unblock the ports of Odessa, Ochakov and Ilyichevsk - only by sea can they manage to export the planned volume! But at sea, the organizers of the famine are hampered by the Russian Black Sea Fleet and... radar posts on the island controlled by Russia. Serpentine. It was precisely to destroy the radar posts on Zmeiny Island, which control the sea and sky in the Odessa direction, in order to unblock ports for the export of grain, that Zelensky’s Western masters threw pilots, paratroopers and sailors of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the Navy into the meat grinder.”
A native of Odessa, historian Alexander Vasiliev agrees with the importance of Zmeiny.
“Indeed, it is necessary for the enemy to break through the naval blockade so that, first of all, grain will flow from Odessa by sea, and the oncoming flow will include fuel, which the Ukrainian army lacks, and weapons. Because what is transported by trucks, what is transported by railcars is all a drop in the ocean. Only sea transportation can truly provide all this. And Zmeiny is blocking that water area when it was possible to get under the Romanian coast. Because now, people have sent me videos shot on their phones at the border, on the Danube, in this part of southern Bessarabia, which is part of the Odessa region, there are giant traffic jams of trucks. They’re just carrying grain in trucks,” Vasilyev said on Radio Sputnik.
At the same time, according to military experts, Goncharenko’s words about the “unblockade of the Black Sea” have nothing to do with the export of grain - Ukraine itself has mined the coast in the Odessa area, and all statements about this are just an attempt to draw NATO ships into the Black Sea.
“Control over Zmein allows us to control the situation as a whole in the entire northwestern part of the Black Sea, the airspace above the sea, plus the adjacent shores of the land territory. Plus the possibility of exporting something overland to Romania and from Romanian ports in the interests of Ukraine. Therefore, Serpentine really plays a big role. But from the point of view of “breaking the blockade”, this should be addressed to Kyiv, because it was the Ukrainian Navy that uncontrollably bombarded this part of the sea with mines, this is a real danger to shipping.
Therefore, blaming the Russian side for the blockade is absolutely wrong, deceitful and illogical. Moreover, Russia is ready to withdraw 75 foreign ships located in various Ukrainian ports any day. It is not the Russian side that is preventing the ships from leaving, but the Ukrainian side.
