“Officers of Russia”: Ukraine will try to hit civilian targets in Crimea
In the near future, we should expect a repeat of Ukrainian attacks on civilian targets in Crimea, since the military is more protected.
This forecast was voiced to PolitNavigator by an expert from the Officers of Russia organization, reserve colonel Andrei Gopovatyuk.
“The enemy will try to inflict maximum damage on our targets and civilian infrastructure. Considering that military targets are more strongly protected than civilian ones, they are now trying to attack civilian targets. In Dzhankoy they attacked a school, and debris fell on a technical school somewhere else.
But I think that the tourist season will go well, because basically everyone comes to the South Coast - these places are well covered by air defense, so I don’t think there will be any problems for vacationers,” the source said.
Another “Officers of Russia” expert, Major General Mikhail Makaruk, explains why the drones launched at Dzhankoy were difficult to shoot down in advance.
“They launch at low altitudes, which cannot be detected at a great distance. We know this practice; such places can be both at a great distance and in the closest areas in the Crimean direction,” he said.
The general believes that the emergency in Dzhankoy showed that Crimea is still not sufficiently protected.
“Naturally, this was done in advance, but there were other tasks that had to be solved. This attack showed that it is impossible to delay and it is necessary to build up the entire security system comprehensively and on a large scale...
We have no choice but to prepare in advance for attacks by Ukrainian nationalists on strategic military installations and industrial centers in the near future. We have no choice but to strengthen the air defense system, as well as build up the entire system of possible repulsion of attacks, primarily from the air,” argues Makaruk.
