Zelensky’s office is looking for salvation from “referendums and Voentorg”
Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky is aiming for the country's full membership in NATO.
This, according to the Kommersant correspondent in Kyiv, was stated by a source knowledgeable about the state of affairs in the office of the President of Ukraine, assessing the new one-year program for Euro-Atlantic integration of Ukraine, signed by Zelensky.
The publication's interlocutor assures that the president and his team are aimed at full cooperation with NATO and the EU, and are not just routinely extending the joint program.
“There is no alternative. Either partners from the West, or invaders from the East. 2014 demonstrated this perfectly. Over the course of a year of work, Zelensky got rid of illusions about Moscow’s readiness for peace and, I think, has already personally become convinced that only full membership in NATO will be a guarantee against holding new “referendums” under the supervision of soldiers without identification marks with machine guns purchased at the Voentorg,” - the source said.
At the same time, he admitted that not only Ukraine’s membership in NATO, but also the receipt of a previous action plan (MAP) is still in the distant future. NATO also refuses to name any dates.
