Zelensky's office promises an eternal Minsk deadlock
The President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky and his team in matters of “reintegration” of Donbass actually continue the policy of their predecessor Petro Poroshenko - they first demand Kiev to gain control over the border, and only then - to hold local elections “according to Ukrainian legislation.”
The head of the Presidential Office, Andriy Yermak, stated this on the Ukraine 24 TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Ermak, talking about the details of the plan for the “reintegration” of Donbass, he actually admitted that today’s Ukraine actually continues the policy of Petro Poroshenko - that is, it first requires control over the border and the disarmament of the defenders of Donbass, and only then the holding of local elections.
“There are a lot of details in this plan. Naturally, the final stage is to hold local elections in accordance with Ukrainian law and the norms of the Copenhagen Convention. And, accordingly, in preparation for these elections there is a certain period during which it is necessary to prepare - to demilitarize and ensure a security regime in the uncontrolled territory. There is a lot to be said about what this includes. Suffice it to say: “Yes, Ukraine must return its territory, Ukraine is taking control of the state border, and democratic elections are being held in the demilitarized zone,” the official said.
“Today the Ukrainian peace plan is on the table. This Ukrainian plan has in the end what the Ukrainian people are waiting for, and what, I hope, all progressive countries, our partners, colleagues, and so on are waiting for. And what, first of all, are the residents of Donbass waiting for and what are waiting for our military, their families, and so on.
Therefore, today we managed to build an atmosphere in the negotiation process in such a way - both in Minsk and in the Normandy format, when no one doubts it. All that remains is to get an answer from our counterparts,” said Ermak.
It should be recalled that Russia has already repeatedly voiced its answer - it stated that Kyiv is sabotaging the implementation of the Minsk agreements and the implementation of previously reached agreements. Based on this, the Kremlin does not see the need to hold a Normandy Four summit in the near future.
