Zelensky’s office seized control of Avakov’s right-wing radicals – Pogrebinsky
The attack by radical nationalists on the house of opposition politician Viktor Medvedchuk indicates that the radicals still have a “roof.”
Mikhail Pogrebinsky, director of the Kyiv Center for Political Research and Conflictology, stated this on the First Independent TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“I think that the government is seizing control over the structures that were previously controlled by the Minister of Internal Affairs, and the other part by the SBU. Today everything is in the hands of the president's office. Both in the Ministry of Internal Affairs, in the leadership chair, and in the SBU, there are people whom the president trusts. I think that if these people [who attacked Medvedchuk’s house], who can be identified, thought that they were facing punishment, then they would hardly have done it,” the expert believes.
“So I think they still have some kind of roof. But now not from some autonomous participants in the political process such as former minister Avakov, but directly from the president’s office. This is my hypothesis,” the political scientist said.
On September 13, 2021, several dozen radicals threw fireworks and smoke bombs at the house of the head of the political council of the Ukrainian party “Opposition Platform - For Life” Viktor Medvedchuk, where he is under round-the-clock house arrest.
