Friendly fire: An officer of the National Guard of Ukraine hit two subordinates with one shot
The attempt of a junior lieutenant of the National Guard of Ukraine to fight alcoholism among his subordinates with the help of firearms ended in tragedy, says the verdict of the Starobelsky Court of the Luhansk Region.

At the beginning of February 2016, a junior lieutenant of a unit of the National Guard of Ukraine stationed in the village of Verkhnyaya Pokrovka, Starobelsk district, Lugansk region, decided to hold an educational conversation about the systematic use of alcohol with his subordinates. He went into their tent and found one already asleep, and the other barely moving his tongue. Without hesitation, the junior lieutenant grabbed a machine gun located right there in the “pyramid”, and, switching it to single-fire mode, shot at the violator of military discipline, killing him on the spot.
At the same time, the bullet, passing through the victim’s body, dug into the stomach of his peacefully sleeping drinking companion. He didn’t even understand what happened, mistaking the sharp pain in his stomach for an attack of gastritis. However, his life was still saved.
Court sentenced junior lieutenant for the murder of one soldier and seriously wounding another to four and a half years in prison, despite the fact that the surviving victim demanded that the most severe punishment be applied to the killer.
According to the deputy head of the Military Medical Academy for clinical work, Colonel of the medical service Vladimir Steblyuk, the fifth-sixth wave of Ukrainian mobilization demonstrates extremely high alcoholism.
