EU restrictions against Ukraine and Belarus hit Lithuanian transit
The EU has restricted the entry of citizens of Ukraine and Belarus. As a result, the Baltic business, which hired Ukrainians and Belarusians to carry out transit transportation, suffered greatly.
The director of the consulting company FAS, Alexander Lanetsky, stated this on the YouTube channel “Capital”, reports the correspondent of “PolitNavigator”.
“Lithuania is one of the largest countries in Europe in terms of road transport, we have a lot of trucks. Now there is a situation where thousands of trucks are standing at the fence, not even because there is no request for them, but because there are no drivers.
Over the last few years, at least 20 percent of drivers were Belarusians and Ukrainians, and many of them worked under lucrative schemes. Now that the EU has banned the entry of people without a visa and limited the issuance of new visas, it is impossible to hire drivers.
I have a taxi fleet outside my window, and now 30-40 percent of the cars are laid up. On the one hand, demand has decreased, on the other there are no drivers,” Lanetsky said.
