“We’ll limit ourselves to the first stage for now.” Putin issued a warning to Western social networks
Russia is not going to block foreign social networks.
Russian President Vladimir Putin said this today during a “direct line”, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“We have no such plans, we are not going to block anyone, we are going to work with them. But there are problems, which are that they send us away when they do not comply with our demands and Russian laws. And when they tell us, we are there, you know, we will work for you, and if there is something you don’t like, we will give you beads, and be happy with what we gave you, what glitters well. This means that this humiliates our dignity,” Putin said.
At the same time, he noted that foreign ones must comply with the requirements of Russian legislation.
“We don’t demand anything special from them. Therefore, at the first stage, I hope that everything will be limited to this first stage. We insist and demand that these various international platforms open their full-fledged representative offices with us, legal entities with which it would be possible to at least conduct a dialogue. And so we say: you are distributing child pornography there, or instructions on suicide, or how to make Molotov cocktails, and so on. You must remove this. But they simply don’t listen to us, they don’t even want to hear what we say. Well, that's wrong. No self-respecting country in the world behaves like this.
Moreover, in their own countries they sometimes do not behave in a very civilized manner. Well, we seem to understand that they hear us and some colleagues are going to do this, that is, open representative offices. If they do not do this, or if open representative offices do not listen to our demands, to the requirements of Russian law, then there are various technical ways. Including slowing down the speed there and so on and so forth. But, I repeat again, we have no plans to close anyone,” Putin said.
