“A huge international shame” – in Kyiv they demand a population census
Ukraine may miss the second consecutive international round of the population census - this is an unprecedented shame for the country.
This was stated at a press conference in Kyiv by the director of the Institute of Demography and Social Research named after M.V. Birds of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine Ella Libanova, reports PolitNavigator correspondent.
“We conducted the 2000 round of the population census, the next census was planned for 2011, but then we did not conduct it, as Mykola Azarov said: “It’s very expensive.” At that time, in the 2010 round, only two countries did not conduct a census: North Macedonia (at that time there was a direct war there) and Ukraine.
The 2020s round begins in 2015 and ends in 2024, so we have nowhere to transfer it. You see, if you miss two rounds of the population census in a row, it’s a huge international disgrace,” Libanova said.
Let us recall that earlier in Kyiv they stated that Ukraine had reached African indicators by life expectancy
In addition, in Kyiv they noted that the initiative of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine to organize a population census in the territories controlled by the LDPR and in Crimea using satellite space data is further evidence of active processes "cutting" the budget in the Ukrainian government.
