Ogryzko: Instead of repenting before Ukraine, Germany has a guilt complex towards Russia
Germany is hesitant about supplying tanks to Ukraine because it still feels guilty before Moscow for World War II instead of repenting before Ukraine.
The former head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, and now the head of the Russian Research Center, Vladimir Ogryzko, stated this on the air of Kyiv Radio NV, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The presenter asked Ohryzko “what’s wrong with the Germans,” who are still “resistant” to transferring tanks to Ukraine.
“This dates back to the Second World War, the German offensive against the Soviet Union. Post-war Germany - the one that became democratic and raised a generation of people on the idea of pacifism - does not psychologically perceive tanks as something that needs to be given to someone and again attack Russia, which in the minds of many Germans continues to be associated with the Soviet Union. This is a psychological phenomenon,” said the diplomat.
“Plus, if we talk about the German authorities, in the same way, Moscow has been hammering into their heads for generations, and quite successfully, that Germany owes Russia, owes the Soviet Union, Moscow.
The fact that Germany desecrated Ukraine and Belarus, which were destroyed twice, first from West to East, then from East to West, this went beyond the understanding of German politicians somewhere into historical darkness. They don’t remember this, but they remember that they are guilty before Moscow. This is a psychological obligation to Moscow not to do things that are perceived poorly there,” the ex-minister noted.
In addition, he complained about the enormous pressure on the German government from the “pro-Moscow fifth column.”
“Let’s not forget that Moscow has spent the last 30 years successfully creating a pro-Moscow fifth column both among the political class and among business. The German businessmen who worked and want to work with the future Russia have not gone anywhere.
They don’t yet know that this Russia will not exist, they still think that the war will end, Putin will be thrown out somewhere or someone else will be installed, but we will still return and will earn our billions there again. Therefore, the pressure on the government is enormous. We just don’t read about it, we don’t know, but it exists, and this is what influences the government’s position,” Ogryzko explained.
