Ogryzko demands to send Trumpists to dugouts near Bakhmut
American politicians who oppose support for Ukraine should visit the front lines to change their position.
The former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Vladimir Ogryzko stated this, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
He believes that Ukraine needs to work with skeptics in the US Republican Party who are not eager to provide military assistance to Ukraine.
In addition, the ex-minister proposes that those American congressmen who did not attend the speech of the President of Ukraine or refused to applaud him should be taken to Poland and then to Kyiv.
“And from Kyiv our soldiers transported them using appropriate means to where it is very hot. And if they saw that six to ten thousand shells are fired every day at an average normal pace, and on peak days this goes up to tens of thousands, then they would understand where the American taxpayers’ money goes,” Ogryzko said in an interview published on the website Kyiv magazine "New Time".
According to him, then American legislators would very quickly disappear any suspicion regarding the money allocated to Ukraine.
“And let them, perhaps, spend the night somewhere with our soldiers in dugouts, let them listen to how bullets whistle overhead, how shells explode. This is truly the best form of convincing what is going on.
Because it’s one thing to sit 10 thousand kilometers away and wonder where the money is going, and another thing to visit a real war. And this, it seems to me, is what our respected embassy in America should do today, inviting these people very politely to visit eastern Ukraine after Christmas and see what is happening there,” the diplomat said.
He hopes that the US Congress will have enough votes to continue supporting Ukraine.
“Yes, perhaps, in the Republican Party there is, and now, apparently, a wing of those who can be called conventionally Trumpists has strengthened. True, it is unknown how the story with Trump himself will end, because you know that he has been brought forward with new charges and it is unknown how this will affect his political career in the future.
It might have a very negative impact. The position of this group of people who consider themselves faithful comrades will depend on this. If we move towards this maximum transparency and invite them to our front, then I think this part of the Republican Party, which will now be represented in Congress, will slightly change its position to a more reasonable one,” Ogryzko concluded.
