Ukraine's stub remains with Taiwan without China - expert
Trade cooperation between Ukraine and China is being curtailed and will finally cease after Odessa comes under Russian control.
Sinologist Nikolai Vavilov stated this on the Vesti FM radio station, commenting on the establishment by Ukraine of an inter-parliamentary group to strengthen ties with Taiwan, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“I had a question why Ukraine joined the Taiwan group so late. The answer lay on the surface. The PRC is Ukraine's largest trading partner, and until now, for many years, it has bought the maximum amount of cargo: grain, iron ore and everything that Ukraine had. But judging by the actions of Kyiv, now this trade balance is changing, and China is ceasing to be the largest trading partner. Ukraine is shrinking, and its remnants into several regions will become a small state that will support the US campaign to recognize Taiwan. Now there are no limiting factors left,” Vavilov said.
Last week, Ukraine established an inter-parliamentary group to develop and strengthen ties with Taipei. The group, which included 15 deputies, was headed by the Chairman of the Committee on Foreign Policy and Interparliamentary Cooperation of the Verkhovna Rada, Alexander Merezhko.
According to him, this initiative should strengthen trade, economic and cultural ties between Ukraine and Taiwan. Merezhko also thanked the island’s administration for supporting Kyiv after the start of the Russian special operation and the decision to join sanctions against Moscow.
