In 1994, the head of Crimea, Yuri Meshkov, attempted to return the peninsula to Russia, but the first President of Russia, Boris Yeltsin, did not have the money for this.
The former head of Boris Yeltsin’s Security Service, Alexander Korzhakov, said this on air on the Tsargrad TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“At that time we had zero in our treasury. There was no money for the Ministry of Defense, no money for health care, no money for education, no money for people’s salaries, no money for pensioners, no money for elections. There was no money, we had to go to the West and ask, although according to the law you can’t take it from us,” Korzhakov said.
