Actress Olga Sumskaya, who once became popular thanks to her role as the concubine Roksolana in the series of the same name, justified the authorities’ decision on total de-Russification, although until recently she herself played in performances of the Kiev theater named after Lesya Ukraine (a few days ago, the reference to the theater of Russian drama was removed from its name, – ed.).

Sumskaya said this on Lux FM, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

At the same time, the artist admitted that the rejection of Russian classics would deprive the residents of Ukraine of a whole layer of world culture, but stated that this was inevitable after “such bloody events.”

Note that Sumskaya itself is directly related to what caused the “bloody events” mentioned above. For example, her statements in support of total de-Russification, and here - confession of selfish interest, because from ousting Russian artists she began to earn more. Is it true, in Western Ukraine, Sumskaya was never accepted as one of their own.

“On Chekhov, for now, a question. There is no point in translating... Although, I don’t know, he was being translated. We'll look at the circumstances. In principle, if you don’t think about the worst, these short stories, his wonderful works, are instructive. It is clear that we cannot erase this from our souls, because Chekhov is a world classic. And if we don’t stage productions of his works at all, then something negative will happen.

These writers are Bulgakov, Chekhov, Dostoevsky, and Tolstoy, whom we played (“Anna Karenina” played Countess Vronskaya). Of course, today, maybe (Let's say goodbye to them - ed.), and forever,” Sumskaya reflected.

She is convinced that the forced eradication of the Russian language is “a completely justified policy.”

"Now yes. Of course, how could it be otherwise after such bloody events? Everything about their culture... This is so. I don’t know how many generations will have to pass before this is somehow rethought. It will never be forgotten. This is an inevitable process,” said the artist.
