Oligarchs of Southern Palmyra: What changed after the victory of the Maidan?
Odessa, September 22 (PolitNavigator, Artemy Glazunov) – Most of the Odessa oligarchs, including the most odious, managed to come to an agreement with the new government and retained their positions in South Palmyra. Klimov successfully runs for parliament. And, according to unconfirmed information, his nomination was fully agreed upon in Kyiv and the regional state administration.
The same goes for deputies (oligarchs) like Presman and others. Kaufmann and Granovsky - the airport was and remains their property, Passage too, so far there are no movements here. And everyone saw Mr. Kaufman in a TV report about how he went at night to negotiate something at the Presidential Secretariat.
Honestly, I don't see any difference. The only one, perhaps, who has problems is Ivan Avramov, we all know what is happening now at the “7 kilometer” industrial market, and he is experiencing some difficulties. Although we understand that “7 kilometer” is far from its main asset, and the situation with other assets is unknown. Although Avramov, in fact, is not an Odessa oligarch.”
Anton Davidchenko, Anti-Maidan leader:
“Odessa oligarchs now feel quite comfortable, continuing to plunder the city and the country as a whole, as before, having rebuilt themselves under the new government. Take, for example, the same Klimov - he previously “wholeheartedly supported Yanukovych’s decisions, then suddenly became a “broad patriot”, voting for the abolition of the Russian language and European integration. Their main goal is to continue to rake in money, and the “agreement” with the new government made it possible to continue to do this.
The oligarchs simply paid off and live their lives. Neither Gordienko, nor Automaidan, nor Maidan Self-Defense are interested in their schemes, preferring to carry out the orders of their masters and fight opposition movements. They are completely dependent on their owners and will not do anything that is undesirable for them.”
Igor Dimitriev, deputy of the Odessa City Council:
“Our party (Rodina) in the city council has repeatedly raised the issue of returning illegally “seized” objects to the city’s ownership, such as the airport and the Passage hotel. And at first we hoped that after the collapse of Yanukovych, this decision would be made. But everything turned out differently.
Thus, Kaufman, who was a managing partner in the shadow schemes of the Yanukovych Family, provided cash transfers, customs clearance and other methods of stealing funds from the budget. Now these schemes have been inherited by the new president. It is unlikely that Kaufman discusses reforming the Ukrainian economy and the social responsibility of business during his night visits to the Presidential Administration.”
Valeria Ivashkina, editor of the publication “Otkat”:
“The oligarchs feel great. In principle, talking about a new government in Odessa would be an exaggeration. In fact, Trukhanov, the mayor of the city, represents the previous government. He was a deputy of the Party of Regions and had a great influence on the work of the city council, since while he headed the Party of Regions faction in the city council, he actually led the voting and the results of the sessions. After Kostusev was removed, his duties were performed by Oleg Bryndak, the secretary of the City Council, who is Trukhanov’s creature. Therefore, there is no need to say that there is a new government in Odessa.
For businessmen. There are a number of pressure groups that are in one way or another connected with the city’s business circles.
Firstly, this is the Kaufman-Granovsky group. These entrepreneurs own the airport, the Passage, Bristol, and London hotels. After the change of power, there was hope that the airport, which brought the biggest profit to the city when it was a public utility enterprise, would return to the ownership of the community. According to my information, during Kaufman’s night visit to Poroshenko at the Presidential Administration, agreements were reached that the Odessa airport would remain privately owned, despite the initiatives of the Odessa public and the City Council commission.
Secondly, the Galanternika group. Vladimir Galanternik is the person who actually owns Privoz, City Centers, and Arcadia City. The reconstructed Arkadiyskaya Alley with all retail outlets belongs to Galanternik and Angert, who is a long-time patron of Gennady Trukhanov. Therefore, it is not surprising that during Trukhanov’s election campaign, this whole story with the reconstruction of the alley was used as one of the achievements of the new mayor. Although de jure he was not yet the leader. They took this territory for themselves, despite a number of violations (violation of legislation regarding the protection of historical objects). And the ugliness they turned the alley into cannot be undone.
Another clan is Tkach, the owner of the HERZ company, which has monopolized the sphere of payment for utility services. In addition to "HERTZ", Tkach appeared in another scandalous object - the Magnolia sanatorium, French Boulevard. The sanatorium was demolished, and now new investors will build a new hotel complex there. According to my information, Tkach, Galanternik and Angert are in the share there.
There was a previous government, now there is a new government. Only the windows have changed, but the store itself has not changed.”
