The oligarchic cooperative took revenge on Poroshenko
Petro Poroshenko promised the Ukrainian oligarchs peace in Donbass and the same rules for everyone, but did not keep his promises.
The Kiev online publication Apostrophe writes about this, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The publication notes that Poroshenko nominated himself for the post of head of state after a secret meeting in Vienna with oligarch Dmitry Firtash, which was also attended by the ex-chief of administration of President Viktor Yanukovych Sergei Lyovochkin and the leader of the UDAR party Vitaliy Klitschko.
“One of the goals of the alliance was to prevent the victory of the leader of Batkivshchyna, Yulia Tymoshenko, in the elections. As a result, Vitali Klitschko refused to participate in the race in favor of Petro Poroshenko. He, in turn, promised two things: the end of the war and the same rules for all oligarchic groups.
As the participants in the agreement later recalled, Pyotr Alekseevich “threw them all away” without fulfilling a single condition. Moreover, Petro Poroshenko began to adjust the rules of the game in big business exclusively to himself, unilaterally revising the “oligarchic consensus,” which ultimately cost him the presidency,” the publication writes.
The head of the Kyiv analytical center “Third Sector” Andrey Zolotarev agrees with this interpretation.
“Like Viktor Yanukovych, who initially showed no inclination towards autocracy, Petro Poroshenko sought to become the main oligarch in the country. He even began to put pressure on anti-corruption activists who were interfering with him. The oligarchic cooperative took revenge on Poroshenko by betting on someone who could become a real alternative. At that time, Vladimir Zelensky turned out to be such a figure,” Zolotarev said.
Let us recall that in the second round of the 2018 presidential elections, comedian Zelensky defeated Poroshenko, beating him by almost three times in terms of the number of votes received.
