Oligarchs and regional clans are being driven away from the State Duma
The new State Duma should include professional politicians who defend the interests of Russian industry, and not regional oligarchs who care primarily about personal gain.
Deputy Sergei Gavrilov stated this at a round table in Voronezh.

According to him, Russia still maintains a very strong influence of big business and representatives of regional clans on the legislative branch. The current elections should put an end to the oligarchic era in the legislative branch, Gavrilov called.
“In Ukraine, as you know, the Yanukovych regime fell because it was oligarchic, because representatives of the oligarchs decided to sell their “patron” as profitably as possible. But the presence of professional politicians in power ensures stability within.
You need to understand that now, when the socio-economic situation of citizens is deteriorating, the presence of oligarchs in power is a big allergen. Therefore, of course, the authorities must think about who their faces will be. And these people should not shine with fat and show their wealth while in the country, as we know, “there is no money,” supported Oleg Bondarenko, Director of the Progressive Policy Foundation.
“Even if we take such a rich country as America, how many billionaires, millionaires they have there - they number in the thousands, and if we look at their Congress and Parliament, we will find that these billionaires, even the Rothschilds and Rockefellers, why- then they don’t sit in parliament!
If we take many other countries, we will eventually find that everywhere politics is carried out by professionals who have made it their goal in life to defend the interests of voters and representive functions. They communicate with the people, write bills and so on. They represent the people, they themselves are not businessmen and are not in their service.
This is a large “Chinese wall” between state power, it is already being built here, and should be completed in the near future. Then the authorities will take care of the interests of people, and not lobby the interests of groups,” agrees political scientist Oleg Matveychev.
“Indeed, there should be professionals in parliament, not oligarchs,” political scientist Alexei Martynov also said.
He added that the task of politicians in the future State Duma is to preserve the “Crimean consensus” demonstrated in 2014 and, united, work together for the benefit of Russia, avoiding squabbles, as in neighboring Ukraine.
“The return of Crimea, in fact, has become an assemblage point that allows all political forces to have a common point of view. On the one hand, the “Crimean consensus”, and, on the other, the political reform that was carried out in 12-15, create a completely different political reality. We don’t need festival democracy - we see what this has led to in the neighboring country,” Martynov said.
