The Olympics split Russian society
The attitude towards the Winter Olympics in South Korea has split Russian society. The head of the parliamentary committee on sports, Mikhail Degtyarev, announced this today in the State Duma.

“We have no doubt that the attacks on our sport are connected with our internal political calendar. Every Russian family, every entrance, every house is split. Some will root for our Olympians, others don’t want to root. They achieved what the overseas conductors wanted - they split society,” Degtyarev said.
He himself believes that the athletes are not to blame, and one should root for them.
“Everyone knows where they come from and what method they trained with. Citizens and deputies of South Korea raise Russian flags in the stands. This suggests that they have great support,” Degtyarev said.
The State Duma adopted a Statement against the actions of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) against Russian athletes, noting the inadmissibility of political interference in the sports field.
