Oliver Stone to Americans: “The Russians sacrificed themselves and saved you”
Many modern Americans today do not understand the price the Russians paid for their victory over Nazism.
The PolitNavigator correspondent reports that three-time Oscar winner, American director Oliver Stone, said this in an interview with Izvestia.
“I think it’s a great idea to make a film about the Russians in World War II. And there have already been several attempts. You yourself have made so many wonderful films, and they are so spectacular that it becomes clear how deeply that war went into your blood and flesh,” Stone said.
He would like to see more Russian films translated into English, which would be “very helpful in understanding how much pain and suffering the war brought to your country.”
“When I see Americans who speak badly about Russia, I want to tell them: “Your grandfather, father, mother could have been dead if not for Russia. If not for her, America and Great Britain would have had to sacrifice many more victims on the altar of war. The Russians sacrificed themselves and saved you." I'm trying to tell them that they wouldn't be standing in front of me now if it weren't for the Russians. Unfortunately, they don’t understand,” the director laments.
At the same time, he says that representatives of the younger generation do not even know what the Second World War is.
“Their interests are superficial. They speak their own language, all “zippy-zuppy-zappy.” And they dress in such a way that I can’t even tell a boy from a girl,” Stone said.
