The political scientist recalled that Zurabov and Poroshenko publicly called each other friends, and also said that, according to his information, “Zurabov did a lot to ensure that Moscow recognized the ‘presidential elections’ in 2014).”
“Do you know what Zurabov’s main problem was? He was always sure that he knew everything,” writes Kornilov. “I remember the first time I met him. This happened immediately after Yanukovych’s victory in the elections and, accordingly, after the arrival of the ambassador, who, as you remember, for several months was in the status of ambassador “in exile,” that is, sitting in Moscow.
The first public event to which he was invited was our joint conference with Evgeniy Kopatko in Donetsk. Naturally, we decided on the sidelines to introduce the newcomer to the political situation. They started telling him what to expect from the new president and his team, how the opposition would behave. Zurabov didn’t even listen to the introduction, interrupted us and said: “So, listen to me, I KNOW EVERYTHING and will tell you what will happen.”
“And then he talked for almost an hour and said SO much that we, people who have worked through all possible scenarios for the development of events in Ukraine, had our jaws dropped,” the political scientist added. – In particular, he said that the first thing Yanukovych would do was appoint Yulia as prime minister. Well, everything in the same spirit. Zurabov did not want to get acquainted with the real state of affairs. Then we had many meetings and similar conversations. But I, already remembering that I was talking with a person who “knows everything,” did not even try to convey my opinion, it was useless.”
