As Savchenko herself stated, she sang this song with a guard during her imprisonment in Russia.
“I’ll sing you a song that one guard who brought me to court loved to sing. And she herself is Belarusian, she loved this song very much. And she and I in the paddy wagon, when no one was listening, sang the song “Oh at the cherry orchard,” Savchenko said.
After performing the song, Dmitry Gordon suggested dedicating it to Russian President Vladimir Putin.
“So be it,” Savchenko agreed.
She added that their duet with the security guard was a success in the pre-trial detention center.
“It was a pleasure to sing this song with her, because she has a Belarusian-Russian accent and a good voice. She and I had such a coincidence, everyone listened to us, filmed it all on camera. They said: “Sing again, girls,” the ex-spotter recalled.
